Dr. Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman
2023 Poet Laureate of Prince George's County, MD

Welcome to Creative Currents!

Editor's Note

My name is Dr. Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman, the current poet laureate of Prince George's County, MD. It is my pleasure to present to you the debut issue of the digital literary journal, Creative Currents, presented by the PGAHC Office of the Poet Laureate.  I conceived of this journal as being a showcase of the talented work of both the literary and visual artists in Prince George's County, MD, and the surrounding areas. I was pleasantly surprised by the creativity of the submissions received, and I appreciated the variations in theme and craft. I hope you enjoy reading this inaugural issue as much as I enjoyed curating it.

This issue is an intergenerational mix of talent. The talent ranges from KJ Fletcher, a 7th grader at Walker Mill Middle School, to Nicholas Alexander Brown-Cáceres, a Honduran-American library executive, musician, and writer based in Mitchellville, Maryland. There is Donney Rose, a Maryland/New Orleans-based performance poet and teaching artist who is a past Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Fellow, and Maggie D Brace, a lifelong resident of Maryland who is a teacher, gardener, basketball player, and author who attended St. Mary's College, where she met her soulmate.  Our contributors vary in age, cultural background, location within the county, and more. The rich diversity inherent in their experiences brings their work alive on the page. There are poems, essays, a play, and beautiful visual art for your review. I hope you RSVP below to meet the creatives and share your praise for their work.

Interested in submitting your own work? Stay connected by joining my mailing list for the call for submissions for the fall issue. That call will be released in May.

Enjoy this issue!

In Creativity,

Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman
